An outbreak of ‘blue tongue’ amongst animals in Kos
It has been reported by Aegean news that a serious outbreak of a virus known as - ‘blue tongue’ has been diagnosed in a number of cattle in Kos. This disease has been spread by mosquitoes.
In Asfendiou over 100 animals have been wiped out . It seems to be affecting largely sheep at the moment, but hunters have also reported a number of diseased or dead rabbits up in the mountain areas.
A meeting will be held to discuss the best possible way to deal with this outbreak and measures that will need to be implemented and followed regimentally concerning quarantine of sick animals and the slaughter and disposal of those animals affected by the disease.
