Book Review – The Thread by Victoria Hislop
The Thread by Victoria Hislop
The Thread is a love story which is set in Thessalonilki, Greece. It starts in 1917 with the Great Fire, and follows with historic details of the 2nd world war and the sad demise of the Jews, Muslims and Christians, when families turn against family, but it is told in such a way that’s not heavy but interesting.
Not too historical in that being woven into a love story I felt I wanted to visit Thessaloniki and see all the places mentioned, it creates a portrait of those years. Certainly the “Island” did that for Spinalonga in Crete, everyone visits it.
The Return is set in the Spanish Civil War, but also has a good storyline. Set around Granada, divided by politics and tragedy, an historical novel that can be enjoyed even as a good holiday book.
