Fire in Pyli today close to the Quarry and Army Base
Today a fire broke out near to the Quarry and Army base at Pyli, thankfully at about 16:00 the fire was brought under control with the help of the fire brigade, the City volunteers Club and 2 fire fighting aircraft.
The initial fear was great as the fire was near the Army camp and there was a serious risk because of the fuel and ammunition kept at the Army base.
Smoke was seen as far as Kardamena and the fire fighting aircraft were seen scooping water from Kefalos and carrying it over Kardamena. Thankfully the fire was contained in the valley. It has also been said that the fire fighting teams did an excellent job ensuring the safety of nearby residents and asking them to evacuate their properties in case the fire spread.
