Green Ecologists speak to the local communities of our island.
D. Grigoriadis: “No! two way traffic, No! reduction of public areas, Slight modifications only, XYTY for Kos”.
The Dodecanese Green Ecologists coordinator, Dimitris Grigoriadis is in Kos, to inform all the local communities of the island, to discuss and listen to all of the problems, as the Pan-Hellenic Ecologists are preparing for the upcoming parliamentary elections. On Sunday they will decide on the structure of the party and on the 21st and 22nd of January there will be a National Conference.
Mr. Nikos Chrysogelos, beyond his position as Regional Director, holds the position of European MP. ‘Ecologists Greens’ are attempting to achieve the 3% required for Parliamentary seats, to further advance their work and institutions. Mr. Grigoriadis states, this may be feasible, since the 2 major parties do not seem to be self reliant. He also discussed the post-election collaboration, as it is now a possibility. A major initiative of the Greens is the presence of Hexavalent Chromium VI in tap and bottled water, an initiative he said will proceed to the islands with laboratory tests and controls.
Mr Gregoriadis has met with the Mayor, Mr. Kaiserli and Mr. Mylonas, separately. Later in the afternoon met with Mr. Kyritsis. The meeting with the Mayor Mr. Kaiserli, they discussed all issues concerning the island, the law on social economy (cooperatives), Mr Gregoriadis noted that he favors the creation of the cooperatives, but only with absolute transparency and social consistency, which does not segregate people. ”Whatever you do, it must be researched and studied”. In reference to waste, “it must be reduced, as Kos and Rhodes produce 54% waste. The rubbish dumps (XYTA) should be abolished immediately, and go to landfills (XYTY).
On the subject of traffic, Mr.Gregoriadis declared his opposition again, to the two-way traffic along the harbour, but the Mayor insists on the decision, which does not disturb the bicycle path. Mr.Grigoriadis, also stated that the Greens are in favour of slight interventions for better traffic flow, and for free public areas for citizens.
In response to the KOSVOICE question, referring to the two-way road and public areas, which will inevitably be reduced, due to the two-way road, but also on other interventions of public areas such as the AKTAION.
Mr. Grigoriadis made it quite clear, once again, that the Greens will oppose the municipal authority, as well as the destruction of public areas. Indeed it was noted, and had read the traffic study by Traffic Technician, Mr. Chryssoulaki, they also spoke with the President of TEE (Technical Chamber of Commerce) Mr. S. Karpouzi, who is also against the two-way traffic along the harbour.
Concluding, he emphasised the extremely serious waste problem, as he said, the region needs to proceed to create a PESDA (Regional Solid Waste Management Plan), as the carrying capacity and capabilities, especially in Kos and Rhodes, has exceeded the limits.
