Hotel employees union Kos: New 48-hour strike Tuesday – Wednesday

Don’t Allow Them

Everyone for a 48hr strike 10/11th July

Fellow workers, we have reached our limits in the middle of the tourist season,

Hundreds of workers remain unpaid
The workers union is not upholding its deal
Deals are being drawn up all the time with less than legal pay
The working terror in job market is a daily phenomenon
An 18% decrease in pay for a hotel maid would mean a 175e cut. For a chef 191e, waiter 132e and for a kitchen assistant 167e and this is just the beginning.

fellow hotel workers;

You were promised golden spoons and a lovely life, but now they are getting rich off your backs, they leave you unpaid since last year and and they haven’t paid you the peanuts for this years’ work.

The big hotel owners have been using the governments tools and bonuses for years now to get rich, and now they have stopped, they are forcing you to sign deals on their terms, or face being fired.

DON’T ACCEPT THIS SITUATION! DONT ALLOW THE WORKING MEDIEVAL GOVERNMENTS, UNIONS AND POLITICAL PARTIES TO CONTINUE THIS ONE-WAY CASH-FLOW.

The time has come to make a stand. No-one is alone.

We have nothing else to expect from the government that worships the European Union, who are selling off our country’s property, destroying our education, health care and our rights.

The 48 hour strike on 10/11th July is our only option

    I don’t think anyone has ever been promised golden spoons and a lovely life but obviously people must be paid for the work they do. Going on strike will only cause more problems for the tourists who will vote with their feet and wallets for their next holiday – which definitely won’t be in Kos. The hoteliers will very easily find migrant workers to take the Greeks’ places – that is how things have ended up in the mess they are already so it will only get worse. Everyone has the right to strike but unfortunately it will not produce a solution to the problem in this case. Note that the taxi strike last year is the main reason why we are having such a poor season this year – people don’t want to go through the same hell again on their holiday.

    I tend to agree with Donna, that when striking it is the tourists that :pay the niffie..in other words pay they pay the price, not the Hotel owners, there must be another way around this. Half of my family work in Hotels, including my daughter, but she is one of the lucky ones, she has been paid in full without any cut…on time…I thinking reporting the Hotellier to IKA or Kep, or whatever steps you have to take legally is the best route to take, so the Hoteliers do not get away with it…….but making life bad for the tourists is not the answer…and then next year, there is the possibility that you won’t get a job at all. I know that Mitsis has not paid any of his staff since the beginning of the season….but I wonder what the reason is, as usually they do get paid every month, albeit a bit later, but never like this before…again my daughter worked there 2 years ago and go paid on time, every month,,so something must be happening…maybe someone should try and go an interview the managers and find out what the problem is.
