Parade cancelled today due to bad weather
March 7th, 1948 (the parade was delayed due to clean monday falling on the same day) marks an historic milestone for Rhodes in the Dodecanese. It is the day that our islands, the last link in the chain of national integration, the creation of the modern Greek state, became an integral part of Greece. On this day the students, armed forces and island officials normally parade along the sea front up to Elefteria Square where the traditional dancing takes place.
The students parade and the dancing in Elefteria square was cancelled today due to the very cold wind and rain.
Although the service in the church went ahead as well as a small parade including the Mayor, officials and the armed forces.
