St George’s Day in Kos

St George’s Day celebrations will be taking place tomorrow all over Greece.  It is a little delayed as this year the actual ‘real’ St George’s Day fell during lent time of the Greek Orthodox Church.  In this period the church does not allow weddings, baptisms or celebrations of any type to take place.

So Monday 6th May 2013 will see the Annual Horse Racing in Pyli village taking place during mid morning.  Many people head here each year to watch the horses with their jockey’s race through the main street.  The village comes alive and  taverna’s and cafe bars crowded as people enjoy this event and many are celebrating their Name Day’s.

This year, a little later on at 2pm a Horse Parade will also be taking place, separate to the Pyli event and on the main Mastihari Road, next to the church (close to the water-park).

Traditional food and local wines and soft drinks will  be being served after this Parade in Mastihari and donations can be given to the church.

Happy St George’s Day!
