Successful Day at M*A*D Mastichari Art Day by Kathryn Angelise

Yesterday saw the M*A*D Mastichari Art Day event organised by Kathryn Angelise from Kos Travel & Events Management.

The Mastichari Art Day was very successful and lasted all day, with artists from all over Kos and Kalymnos displaying their work & talent for all to see. There were an array of beautiful things from jewellery, photographs and paintings to hand painted stones and pottery.

The artists who attended the event were: Yasmine Shashaa, Erini Ioannithou, Pepi Karounou, Mannia Fioravanti, Jos Peperkamp, Anastasia Vagalotis, Fondas Chrisopoulos, Natalie Houtioudi, Mandy Htzhgiankomi, Rita Neske, Aggeliki Pandolsi, Paulina Laskowskq-Chrisopoulos, Grigoria and Nina, Eleni & Fanni from Kalymnos.

The local childrens’ Art Class kindly agreed to also take part in M*A*D and the art class is part of the local councils’ workshop. Children from the villages of Mastihari, Antimachia and Kardamena displayed their work and thanks is given also to their teacher Manolis Karanastasis.

Also attending the event were ARK (Animal Rescue Kos) to talk to people about their great work here on the island.

This event was attended by locals and tourists from all over the island and a huge thanks goes to everyone who attended and showed their support of the Mastichari Art Day M*A*D. Thanks also to Jos Peperkamp for helping with the publicity of the event, to the local businesses who offered discounts to anyone attending the event on the day and of course special thanks to Kathryn for all her hard work in organising and publicizing the event.

Kathryn’s idea behind M*A*D was and is to tap into the undeveloped market of alternative tourism, by hosting and promoting events such as the Masichari Art Day it encourages tourists to move around the island, come out of the hotels that they are staying in and see what amazing things we have to offer to people when they visit our beautiful island.

Kathryn’s belief is that if the villages around the island work together to host events such as this and promote alternative tourism, then we are giving something different to the repeat customers as well as offering something which is not offered in hotels or even possibly any other places to new visiting tourists.

Kathryn also believes working together like this and encouraging people to support one another is the key to encouraging alternative tourism especially with the current economic situation and, by offering these customers something that they will not receive anywhere else it will encourage them to return time and time again (also the tourists staying in the large hotel complexes may even decide that the villages have more to offer therefore they may book to stay in the villages on their return).

If you would like to contact Kathryn Angelise with regard to this event and the artists involved or to assist you in organizing a similar event in your village or area please don’t hesitate to contact her and she will be only to happy to assist. You can contact her at her office on 22420 59112 or via her website or facebook page.

A message from Kathryn Angelise:

I would like to say a huge THANK YOU to everyone that supported M*A*D. The event was a success, and was a positive step towards proving that there is more to the Island than sun & sea. The beautiful Island of Kos has talent!!! Creating local events around the island has a positive effect, and also gives the people staying this time around in an all inclusive hotel, something to ‘come out’ for. So it is a positive way to adverise our villages. If anyone has any ideas for future events and places to highlight, please don’t hesitate to contact me
