Yesterday, Sadly, The “Forgotten” Dutch Man Died in Kos
The 67 year old “forgotten” Dutchman took his last breath yesterday morning at the Hospital in Kos as his health had greatly deteriorated since January 3rd, when he was taken in for an operation in the intestine and had to be transferred to a physical rehabilitation centre, but the Dutch Embassy (& the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs) would not cover the charges for the flight (around 20,000 euros), despite the repeated efforts of the Dutch Association in Kos (and other local clubs/associations responded, but the amount could not be easily covered) .
The Dutch association, however, acted humanely and managed to give publicity to the subject searching until the last minute for a solution for transportation home.
It remains unknown if anyone is interested (eg The Netherlands Consulate …) now that he has died (and he did not have a good relationship with his relatives) in the process of his burial.
So it is likely that the prescribed procedure for these cases will be followed and he will be buried here, (even though he had expressed his desire to be buried in his homeland).
